Billington is proposing a restructuring of its structural steel operations, closing the Yate facility in Bristol and consolidating its structural steel operations at the company’s Wombwell and Shafton sites in Barnsley, local to all other group operations.
The company said that a consolidation at Barnsley would provide flexibility to more closely align operational capacity with market demand, as well as reduce overheads and costs. Recent capital investments at the two Barnsley facilities have allowed for an increase in productive output, it said. This, combined with the expansion of the night shift at the Shafton facility, has provided the opportunity for capacity to be transferred to Barnsley.
