The charges relate to an incident that occurred on 20th August, 2022, in a pre-fabrication yard on site. An employee sustained serious injuries when a wall of rebar mesh fell upon him as he was working to remove the rebar from a vertical jig to be transferred to another part of the site.
Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS and Laing O’Rourke Delivery Limited each face a single charge of failing to plan, manage and monitor construction work without risks to health and safety, in contravention of Section 33(1)(c) of the Health and Safety At Work Etc. Act 1974.
News of this prosecution comes just a few weeks after the ONR announced it was prosecuting the two companies, along with client body NNB Generation Company (HPC) Ltd, over the death of site supervisor Jason Waring, 48, who was crushed by moving machinery on site in November 2022.
And it was only three months ago that ONR issue NNB GenCo an improvement notice relating to the monitoring and management of tower cranes following the failure of components spotted by an operator during routine pre-use checks in February.
Dates of court hearings have yet to be determined.
