Following asbestos removal, Freeley is demolishing two derelict structures – Bridge College in Woodlands Drive, and the Curzon Building in The Fairway.

The smaller building, Bridge College, is being taken down first, with the whole site scheduled to be cleared by mid-December 2025.

As homes, schools and public footpaths are within close proximity, noise, dust and traffic will be carefully managed throughout the project.

Demolition by Freeley follows completion of the neighbouring Lisburne school for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Built by Kier, that school opened last year.

Michael Freeley, director of J Freeley Ltd, said: “We look forward to helping Stockport Council prepare this site for redevelopment by removing vacant buildings suffering from vandalism and deterioration.

“Our priority is to complete the project with minimal disruption while ensuring public safety at all times. This will be achieved through carefully controlled demolition, specialist dust suppression equipment, and low noise attachments. We’ll also be liaising closely with the local community to keep them informed of our works.”

Cllr Dan Oliver, cabinet member for communities, culture and public protection at Stockport Council, added: “While there are no immediate plans for the land, we’re aware that the condition of the site has caused concern in the community. We’re pleased the demolition is now taking place, particularly following the completion of the multi million pound SEND school that opened in December on the adjacent site.”
