Dover District Council gave planning permission for the scheme in August and authorised the start of works last month.
The Tides Leisure Pool was built in the 1980s but has now reached its end of life and was permanently closed to the public in March 2025. Works to demolish the existing pool building started last month and are expected to be completed within the next two or three weeks.
The new council-owned leisure centre is due to open in April 2026 for the sports hall facilities and indoor tennis, with full opening of the new centre in summer 2027.
